A month ago, we reported that the copy-paste functionality between Android and Windows 10 will soon come to the Your Phone app. Other names are content transfer and clipboard synchronization. As it requires access to the phone's clipboard, and thus special integration, unfortunately it will not work immediately on any phone. And here again - as in the case of RCS communication - this functionality is first supported by Samsung devices, i.e. Microsoft's closest partner in the Android world.
We will learn more about the support, among others from Microsoft's technical support. There is information that Copying and pasting between devices is supported only for Samsung Galaxy S20, Samsung Galaxy S20 +, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip devices (by the way - the last one on the Polish website is still under the name Bloom) . We copy and paste using the same shortcuts as usual. For now, it only covers the copying of texts and images. Those over 1MB will be reduced. Clipboard synchronization also means that when we copy something on either device, the copied data will overwrite the clipboard contents on both devices.
And why only Samsung? As Roberto Bojorquez from Microsoft explained, accessing the phone clipboard requires special OEM integration. This is possible thanks to Microsoft's partnership with Samsung and the Link to Windows tool installed on its phones. Bojorquez also ensured that functions that do not require special integration are available in the Your Phone application for all phones. In other words, interfering with more guarded system resources requires cooperation with the device manufacturer. And there are thousands of manufacturers and Android devices (apparently over 24,000), so it's hard to expect the feature to become widely available. Microsoft encountered similar difficulties a few years ago implementing Cortana on Android and iOS. The assistant was forced to act as an independent application with more or less access to system services.
To enable content transfer, open the Your Phone app on your PC, go to Settings> Copy and Paste across devices, and make sure the toggle is turned on for the setting "Allow this app to access content I copy and paste on my phone and computer." , and moving it ”.
