Although more and more people are interested in new technologies, for many contemporary solutions used in smartphones, TVs, headphones and majority of others are a mystery.By entering the electronics store, they feel lost, and they look at the market of the market with distrust - after all, it is not easy to believe in assuring that something is absolutely necessary and fantastic in every inch, when we do not really understand what's going on.This is why I decided to establish a technological ABC - a series of short, content and written in the possible language of articles from which technological laymen will learn everything they need.
The cycle will be initiated by NFC technology. How it works, which it allows, where you can meet it and whether there are any dangers associated with it - these are the questions that I will try to answer.
What is NFC, or Near Field Communication
NFC (Near Field Communication) technology literally means "close range communication".The task of NFC is to establish a connection between devices and data transmission. Thanks to it, you can send from one smartphone to another business card with a phone number or handle contactless payments (the smartphone will work like a payment card). For this purpose, it uses a specific frequency of radio waves, thanks to which two devices can send digital data among themselves.NFC technology is characterized by a very short range - it works only at a distance of a maximum of 20 cm - but in the context of its applications it should be treated as an advantage (safety guarantee).
NFC draws from RFID, i.e. radio frequency identification technology.Don't worry, you don't have to know what's going on.I give this information only so that you know how far the NFC roots reach. The patent on RFID, which became the basis for NFC, was reported in 1983.However, it had to take a long time before the NFC technology went to the devices. As for mobile phones, in which the NFC module is the most popular, the NFC first appeared in Nokia 6131 in 2008.
NFC A Bluetooth
Both NFC and Bluetooth are used to send data at close distances. Both are also used in today's smartphones. However, it is difficult to call them replaceable solutions. Why?Here are some examples:
What is NFC for?
The NFC module on the phone is not obligatory and absolutely necessary, but certainly extremely comfortable.Only a few years ago he was only encouraged with temporary interest, and today he was more and more applicable. Here are some examples:
Is the NFC module on the phone safe?
Payments in the store using NFC technology still raise some concerns, but these are completely unjustified fears. The risk is eliminated by double and even triple protection of the transaction (the need to unlock the phone, enter the PIN in the application, and in the case of delay and time to make a transaction - 30 seconds - re -entering the security pin) and a small distance (20 cm) required for payment. The probability that someone will make a contactless payment with our NFC phone is even lower than in the case of the risk of the theft of our payment card, which in itself is enough for PLN 150 to disappear from our account (and recently even more, because the limits for non -contact transactions have changedwhen it comes to the need to enter the pin).
In what smartphones will you find NFC?
Not every smartphone has NFC, but at the same time it is not a reserved solution only for top -shelf devices.Just a few years ago, the biggest problem with the occurrence of NFC was his absence among Chinese brand smartphones, but this has changed today. So you can find the NFC function both on Samsung or Apple, as well as in Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, Motorola and many others.
