The Samsung Galaxy S21 has had serious overheating problems for a while. The new update has fixed everything that can be seen in the benchmarks. The portrait mode and RAM management have also been improved.
About two weeks ago it was hot, even very hot. It was then that the Samsung Galaxy S21 started acting weird to say the least. He never had an amazing battery, but this time you could see it fading into his eyes. While playing Pokemon Go in direct sunlight, the phone got uncomfortably hot and was losing energy very quickly.
I have been using it in the same way for 6 months, and it was the first time I had to use the battery saver mode. What happened and what needed to be fixed in the update?
Samsung Galaxy S21 had problems with overheating
This lengthy introduction is essentially to emphasize how much the Korean manufacturer has "kicked" the May update. Previously, I did not pay attention to it, but now I found a lot of complaints about the flagship's operation on the web. Part of it was about security, but it turns out I wasn't the only one faced with serious device stability issues.
Around the mentioned heat period, I did the CPU load test you can see in the screenshot below. They were taken at a similar ambient temperature and with no active background processes. In both cases, the device was cool before starting the test. And what follows from them?
Load test after update / photo. gsmManiaK.pl Load test before updating / photo. gsmManiaK.plOn the right we have a 7-minute chart before the update (I had to truncate the timeline for privacy reasons), and on the left - a measurement taken yesterday. CPU throttling due to excess temperature is very visible, and after an update, it is practically non-existent. The difference is gigantic and it didn't take a benchmark to find it.
The temperature of the device rose to such an extent that the phone did not want to charge at all. Not that I couldn't use it because it was charging. He lay completely dormant, and the battery charge indicator was still there.
What else has been improved?
The update I forced yesterday was relatively small and also included June security fixes. As for other impressions, since installing the ill-fated software, I have also noticed an increase in wRAM application's hold time. This is a positive, because previously OneUI was very aggressive in getting rid of applications from operating memory.
This was mostly noticeable when using portrait mode. This is where the Sammobile service comes to my aid (link in the source). According to them, quite a few users reported such issues, and the update fixed it. The error was due to an incorrect way of allocating memory when using this camera mode.
