It is about a new way to unlock a smartphone that has been present in classic smartphones for a long time - a biometric reader under the screen. In a flexible model, it is not so easy to implement, which is why in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 we found it on the side frame, integrated with the main button.

According to the patent, the fingerprint sensor is to land in a symmetrical position on a smaller and larger screen. There will be two sensitive sensors, and the data from them will be immediately sent to the main PCB. Samsung will thus save space, having a reader on both sides of the smartphone.
So what is the problem? Well, the location for the sensor is not the most convenient and mainly left-handed people will be satisfied with it - it could be one of the few nods towards them, as most phones are designed for the convenience of right-handers. However, this does not change the fact that the sensor is too low and reaching it with the thumb will be uncomfortable.
