Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a camera problem. The update will not fix it

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra offers the highest resolution camera on the market, but it also has its problems. Autofocus does not work as expected. Nothing will change that anymore - admits the producer.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra has one of the best cameras on the market. Maybe a few models, including the Huawei P40 Pro, take better photos. All thanks to a matrix with a resolution of up to 108 MP and a telephoto lens with a 10x hybrid zoom and a maximum 100x digital zoom.

Such a matrix is not only an advantage, but, as it turns out, also a disadvantage of this model, which cannot be repaired.

Galaxy S20 Ultra - blurry photos

Users complained about autofocus problems on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, and the manufacturer was to take a look at the whole matter. Many photos taken with the smartphone were blurry, because in some cases the autofocus was simply lost. The manufacturer has announced that it will fix the problem with the update, now admitted that it will not work, because it is a design problem.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra ma problem z aparatem. Aktualizacja go nie naprawi

In response to a question from one of the Samsung forum users, the moderator described what caused the problem with the camera. Due to the larger matrix, the image depth is shallower than in other models, and the focal length is longer. The combination of a large matrix with a wide aperture (f / 1.8) generates a shallow depth of field, but at the same time causes problems with the proper sharpening of the image by the camera. According to Samsung, this should mainly apply to close frames, because in their case, AF can get lost.

As a result, the subject in the near field may not be properly focused, for example, its edges may be out of focus because the camera's focus area is limited. This is how physics works and it is also the case with ordinary cameras. However, in the case of wide shots, autofocus problems should not arise. In turn, the problem with close planes can be solved by closing the aperture, using the manual mode.

However, users also complained about AF problems in normal situations that are not mentioned here. Losing autofocus with standard plans is something that cannot be explained by the principles of physics and should be solved, otherwise, regardless of the resolution and brightness, the camera in the Galaxy S20 Ultra will be useless.
