We've already noticed this issue with PS5 testing in the editorial office. While the copies sent to PPE and PSX Extreme, as well as our private ones bought on the day of the premiere, worked really quietly, one of the reviewers from a competing editorial office called me twice because his console did not offer such comfort in terms of noise level.
One of the editors of lesnumeriques.com also noticed this problem. After spending three weeks with a digital test model, he noticed that the one he purchased on November 19 was undeniably louder. After disassembling the consoles, it turned out that both devices use ... different models of the fan. The editor, using the example of games, checked that the noise level on one console model was 39 dB, while on the other device it increased to 43 dB.
Of the five PS5s we were able to test, two had a quieter fan and the other three had a fan that made more noise, which of course was measured with the right hardware. And yet, as noted during testing - there is a third fan model, shown by Sony in the "official" PS5 disassembly video.
