OnePlus 9T is unlikely to appear. And that's not necessarily bad news

OnePlus is in the habit of introducing improved versions of its flagships to its offer, which are marked with the letter T and appear about half a year after the premiere of the original. However, there are more and more indications that OnePlus 9T will not be. At least that's what Max Jambor says, who has a lot of proven leaks from the OnePlus stable.

It is unclear if the smartphone was going to be canceled or was never in the plans. More important, however, is something else.

The OnePlus T series makes sense, but only sometimes

It happened that between the premieres of the successive OnePlus flagships, some new technologies hit the rooftops. No wonder that the manufacturer wanted to implement a new solution in a smartphone that fills the gap between successive generations.

This was the case with the OnePlus 6T, which was one of the first commercially available smartphones with on-screen fingerprint readers. Only half a year earlier, mass production of this type of panel would have been difficult, so the smartphone had its raison d'etre.

OnePlus 9T unlikely to appear. I it's not necessarily bad news

Such technological breakthroughs, however, do not happen every year, and models from the T line were released regularly in 2016-2020. More and more often it was hard to resist the impression that OnePlus deliberately trimmed its smartphones just so that in six months there would be something to improve.

Not to look far, the most important news in last year's OnePlus 8T is a 120 Hz screen (instead of 90 Hz) and faster 65 W charging (instead of 30 W). The problem is that there were basically no major contraindications for which these solutions could not go to OnePlus 8 a few months earlier.

OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, meanwhile, do not require any necessary improvements

Over the past few months, no significant technologies have hit the roofs that current flagships lack.

OK, more smartphones with selfie cameras under the screens are slowly entering the market, but this solution is still far from perfect. Most manufacturers will be cautious about this technology for a long time, treating it as an experiment rather than a new standard.

What else? Recently, the Snapdragon 888+ had its premiere, which in itself can be perceived as a good opportunity to launch the OnePlus 9T. Reaching for a slightly more efficient system, however, would be ridiculous in a situation where the "nine" already has reduced performance due to concern for the battery.

So I'm glad that OnePlus apparently no longer wants to improve its smartphones by force. Especially since through the T line, the company clearly felt the pressure of intentionally generating deficiencies that would be enough to make the new version right.

I would rather expect a reduction in OnePlus 9 Pro prices, because these are a bit too high.
