The closure of the LG Mobile division was announced in early April, but it was obvious that the entire process related to this decision could not be done overnight. A few weeks after its announcement, a historic moment arrived.
LG will no longer produce smartphones from June 1, 2021
LG previously estimated that factories would have to operate until the end of May to cover contracted liabilities. Assumptions were achieved to the day, because  — as reported by the Korean media — production of smartphones will end on May 31.
Of course, this is still not the final end of the mobile department. LG still has to deliver ordered copies to stores and operators around the world. The company assumes that the end of this type of activity will last no longer than July 31.
LG phones were mainly produced in Vietnam. Most of the employees will be transferred to other departments and will mainly deal with the production of home appliances.
What's next for LG smartphones?
LG has no plans to leave customers out in the cold. The company has already announced that selected smartphones will get up to 3 major Android updates, ending their lives with the yet unannounced Android 13.
Of course, there is also warranty and post-warranty support. LG services repair phones for 4 years from the end of production.
It is possible that some LG smartphones will be sold for nothing in the near future, although there have been no big discounts so far.
