The new ID cards have an additional symbol on them that may come as a surprise to people exchanging the old document. It is about the electronic layer placed since 2019, thanks to which the seemingly "ordinary" evidence is in practice the so-called. e-proof.
The e-ID card has a specific symbol on the obverse in the upper right corner, which is an indication that the owner is dealing with a document with an electronic layer. The chip embedded in plastic allows you to log on to public administration portals after contactless verification and sign documents. However, it is necessary to have a special reader.
These are not the only benefits of having an e-proof, which was pointed out by the Facebook administrators of Chopin Airport. According to them, people with ID cards with an electronic layer can, among others, use the automatic ABC gates in the border control zone. This certainly shortens the time of stay at the airport, which is an important advantage especially during the holidays.
E-IDs have been issued since March 2019, but the current document does not need to be changed as long as it is still valid. Interestingly, the application for the issuance of an e-ID card must now be submitted in person, for example at the City Hall. From July 27, 2021, this can no longer be done electronically.
