Home ›LG Wine Smart - a smartphone test that does not lack flip -flops19.01.2016 11:19Mateusz Budzeń
Before the era of the iPhone and other smartphones, we could choose among the much interesting -looking devices.Designers had more room to show off, giving us such unusual models as Nokia N90 or Nokia 3650.It was also full of cells with a flap or a retractable keyboard.Currently, we will find primarily simple rectangular lumps, where almost the entire front is occupied by a large, touch display, and such HTC, which just a few years ago was able to show Desire Z, today they give us One A9, i.e. another iPhone with Android.
It got boring and unusual is defined by smartphones with, for example, the display curved on the edges. It is difficult to find something else, and producers staring with jealousy at the high sales of the iPhone do not feel like experiments. With some such shyness, LG broke out of this inertian, launching a smartphone with a flap, model Wine Smart. He aroused my interest and I wanted to get this copy as soon as possible. It succeeded, Wine Smart recalling memories of the great Motorola Razr V3 fell into my hands for several days.
Back to the past
After opening the box, at the first touch LG Wine Smart I felt as if I was going back to the time when the producers of the smartphone ideal did not see in the iPhone and tried to sell us their own, in selected elements a characteristic style. The model is made of high -quality plastic, imitating metal and skin. When the Smart Wine is complex, the top and back of the plastic cover with skin texture. It puts resistance to the fingers, and also copes well with greasy prints, they are not visible at all.
The material used seems to be resistant to traces of use, it should even endure the fall quite well. However, I have some concerns for silver -plated plastic elements. It is on them that small scratches may appear (it is possible), and the fall will most likely end in a disfiguring splash.
The mountain remained empty, which is a big disadvantage for me.LG could, for example,.place a small display for displaying the current time and notifications. The main camera was placed on the back, as well as the speaker. The loudspeaker mask looks tacky, reminds me of those used in cheap toys, both because of the shape and shiny plastic. The left side is a physical volume button. It should protrude slightly more, due to too deep embedding it is harder to detect it with a finger. On the opposite side there was an audio connector. However, the microUSB connector is located on the lower side.
After lifting the upper part, our eyes show the medium -sized display, which is strongly surrounded by too wide frames. The physical buttons occupy almost the whole, they are illuminated, large and clear. It is thanks to them that Wine Smart won my parents' plus.I will add that parents said that this LG model is much better than all these new smartphones and would be a better choice for them.It was these words that gave me the thought that Wine Smart should be a great smartphone for older people.
Just above the classic -looking numerical keyboard there is a red and green header button.Between them a key was placed with the letter "C", I expected from it that he would allow the removal of the marked element. However, it serves as a back button and duplicates the physical, systemic button that was at the very top.
For me it is a strange and not very intuitive solution. At most, with its use, we can delete the text while writing, a bit too little.Above it is a button used to move around the system. On its left we will find a shortcut to the camera and the main application for receiving messages (SMS by default). The right side is a shortcut to contacts, as well as a QuickButton button to which we can assign any application. At the very top, the manufacturer used physical, characteristic of Android System buttons.
The whole makes a fairly good impression. The hinge should last longer than the warranty period, although minimal looseness raises some reservations. They only occur when the phone is closed.Smart wine weighs 143 grams, and after folding its dimensions are 117.7 × 58.7 × 16.6mm.
Only the battery was good
We have to pay PLN 650 for this unusual smartphone. At this price I expected a better specification, the one offered by Wine Smart disappoints.Let's start with a display that looks like it was pulled out of one of the cheapest smartphones on the market. The manufacturer has decided to touch, a 3.2-inch screen with a resolution of 480 × 320 pixels.Pixel density at 180 ppi is too low and the displayed image is lacking..Viewing angles are even worse, even a slight deviation equals color changes, the worst is in vertical orientation.Added to this are weak, faded colors.Wine Smart has one of the worse screens I was dealing with in smartphones.Honestly, it's terrible.
It is not very good under the physical buttons. We have a quad -core Snapdragon 210 processor at 1.1 GHz, the adreno 304 graphics system, 1 GB RAM and 4 GB for data (available about 1.5 GB), so it is worth investing in a microSD memory card. This configuration ensures smooth operation of the operating system, but I would like to see how it will work after half a year of intensive use and installing many applications from Google Play.I am afraid that then it may be worse and we will have to get used to the temporary dismissals of work.On a smartphone with a flap, there are also simple games, but we can forget about more extensive titles.
Only the battery is good.I did not expect too much after 1700 mAh, but a small screen and energy -saving components ensure satisfactory working time.I reached for the charger every 2-3 days, with a similar way of using the Samsung Galaxy S6 road requires charging daily.Bravo for LG, we have easy access to the battery, just remove the rear flap.
Sometimes, however, you have to feel the screen
Of course, the display is tactile, but due to the phone's design, using it is not very convenient. However, we did not buy a device with physical buttons to touch the screen all the time. The more that moving around the system using the keys is fast and comfortable.I preferred to make 2-3 clicks instead of reaching with my finger to the element I was interested in.There are no problems with maintenance of the main screen, a menu with a list of installed applications, but with some applications we can see a message that we need to support them by touching the screen.
I had to get used to writing with a numerical keyboard again, the years spent with the screen QWERTY have noticeably influenced my speed of introducing subsequent characters. In the case of this model, Wine Smart is worth remembering this older method of writing on the phone, because the screen keyboard is too small even for a person with slim fingers and to use it would rather use a stylus.
When I had the pleasure to test LG Wine Smart, it acted under Android's control version 5.1.1 Lollipop.Of course, there was also the manufacturer's overlay. It does not stand out with anything special from the competition and very well, every Android user will find it without a problem. We get the main screens on which we can place shortcuts for application and widgets, a menu with all applications installed, as well as a retractable center with fast settings and non -fired notifications.
The notification center can be caused in a traditional way - by moving your finger from the top edge of the screen down, and also holding the stars pressed. The advantage of the LG overlay is its lightness, it works quickly and smoothly, I did not notice any release. As I mentioned earlier, I would like to see how the specification used will be able to ensure liquidity after a few months of intensive use.
LG Wine Smart will be a good smartphone for an elderly person.First of all, due to the clear, large keys.Secondly, the LG overlay allows you to set a sufficiently large fonts size, also individual interface elements, such as icons are quite large.Third, returning to the keyboard, the elderly will be satisfied with the four buttons providing quick access to selected applications. There was also the opportunity to assign a given contact to the numerical key.
It is better not to start the camera application at all
If you are going to use LG Wine Smart to take photos, then just let this model be forgiven or take the camera with you.The main camera with a modest resolution of 3 MP takes photos that are at most suitable ... or at all are useless at all.
They look tragic even with good lighting. They probably lack everything, from sharpness to color reproduction, and the noise is really large. It is even worse with a 0.3 mp front camera, this one falls poorly even during video calls, of course we can forget about a selfie.
The loudspeaker was right next to the camera lens, under a trashy -looking mask. The sound coming out of it is too quiet, which is a pity, because due to other features Wine Smart is a good smartphone for an elderly person. It is not possible to attach to the quality of the quality for a device for about PLN 650.
Summary: What would we pay PLN 650 for?
The biggest disadvantage of LG Wine Smart is its exaggerated price, inadequate to the offered possibilities.Just because it is one of the few smartphones with a flap today does not mean that we have to pay so much for low -shelf specification. If this model would cost a maximum of PLN 400, it would be a really interesting proposition, especially for an elderly person. Then I could recommend it to my parents with a clear conscience. However, at the current price, it remains for me only a curiosity on the market dominated by boring, rectangular lumps.
I am quietly counting that other producers will follow in the footsteps of LG and more smartphones with a flap will appear on the European market.I would also like to see models with a retractable keyboard. On the other hand, unfortunately, there is no indication that this would change, and in addition more and more companies are abandoning their own style to copy the iPhone.
