How to take a screenshot on a Chromebook (Chrome OS)?

Chrome OS is very easy to use. I would not be afraid to say that its use is easier than Windows, Linux and macOS. However, this does not change the fact that due to the slightly different arrangement of the function keys, the execution of some functions may seem quite unobvious at the beginning.

Certainly one day you will want to take a screenshot or a screen clipping. This is where you'll start frantically looking for the PrintScr button. Unfortunately, you won't find it like the Caps Lock key. Google has used its own keyboard layout with predefined function keys.

Fortunately, the lack of a dedicated PrintScr button does not mean that making the screenshot is difficult or, worse, impossible.

In this guide, we show you how to take a screenshot on a Chrome OS computer in several ways.

Take a screenshot using a keyboard shortcut

The easiest way to take a screenshot is to use a keyboard shortcut defined by Google. To do this, press and hold for a moment two keys - Ctrl and Overview (marked in the photo below).

Almost immediately after taking a screenshot, Chrome OS will display a notification informing that the screenshot has been taken.

At this point, you can choose to edit, copy to clipboard, or paste the captured screenshot wherever you want.

Where does Chrome OS store screenshots?

Screenshots are stored in graphics by default. We can access them via the file browser built into the system - Files.

For more extensive screenshot taking, use an additional application

If you need many options when taking screenshots, it's a good idea to visit the Chrome Web Store and download one of the extensions for taking screenshots.

We recommend the Nimbus extension, which allows you to take a screenshot, screenshot and record the screen.

To install Nimbus, go to the Chrome Web Store and search for Nimbus. The extension weighs approximately 6 MB and is available in the Google Chrome browser. The downside may be that Nimbus is only available in English.

Nimbus also allows you to take a screenshot of the entire website or its selected part, e.g. a teaser or photo.
