The entire iPhone 13 series will gain in the appearance of the front thanks to a smaller notch, i.e. a notch in the screen containing a webcam and Face ID sensors. It will be the first such refreshment of the smartphone front since the launch of the iPhone X, i.e. from 2017.
It is therefore an important event in the Apple environment, but in the scale of the entire market, it has nothing to brag about. For years, the competition has had tiny notches in the screen, and Samsung is introducing a large-scale camera hidden under the screen. Will you say that the Face ID system justifies the notch? I would agree with you in 2017. With today's technology and the sea of Apple cash, my bet is that Tim Cook wants to squeeze several years of technology to the last drop.
The news will also appear on the back, because the camera island in the iPhone Pro will grow noticeably. In models without a note, the Pro will also be a bit larger, but in their case the main difference will be the location of the cameras. The two modules will no longer be stacked one above the other, but an islet diagonally. It is not known whether this will be a change dictated by the internal structure or the sole desire to distinguish the 13 from the 12 models.
What will the larger camera modules in the iPhone 13 hide?
The main novelty is to add a portrait mode that works in video. Until recently, I was skeptical about this idea, but recently I pre-tested an Android smartphone, about which I can not write more, and in which this solution works great. The background blurring is live and looks incredibly realistic. So I expect the iPhone 13 to be at least as good. A really big thing is going to happen in the video.
When it comes to photos, the ultra-wide-angle lens is the one to gain the most, which so far has been treated a bit neglectfully. It is to gain ... autofocus. Yes, so far the really ultra-wide angle has been deprived of it. For this we also see optical stabilization.
iPhone 13 with a much more modern screen.
Leaks say the new iPhones will have the same screen diagonals as the 12 series, but we are expected to see new OLED LTPO screens that will support Pro Motion's 120Hz refresh. We have known this technology for several years from the iPad Pro, and on the Android side from the countless smartphone base.
A smoother screen is a one-way path. You may not feel much more fluent during the transfer, but I guarantee that you will get used to it quickly. If you pick up your predecessor after a few weeks of using your new iPhone, you will be shocked at how little the screen has been smooth. This type of technology is most impressive when stepping backwards, not forwards.
iPhone 13 with a better screen but also a larger battery.
Refreshing at 120 Hz will not be without impact on the smartphone's working time, but leaks say that Apple will choose larger batteries, thanks to which there is a chance that the working time will be the same as in its predecessor. The iPhone 13 is said to have a 3,095 mAh battery (instead of 2,815 mAh), and the larger model will have 4,352 mAh, or 18 percent. more.
iPhone 13 with no breakthrough in specs, but was anyone expecting something else?
Even several-year-old iPhones are a model of performance to this day, which shows that each new generation has a huge reserve of power. In the case of the iPhone 13, therefore, there will be no revolution. Leaks indicate the use of an Apple A15 Bionic processor made in 5 nm + lithography. Plusik means better management of energy consumption and heat management.
This means that we will not see the M1 processor in the iPhone, which has found its way to the new MacBooks and iPad Pro. Is it a disappointment? Probably not, because the A15 Bionic will certainly have a power reserve for the next few years.
iPhone 13 may not have the popular memory variant.
According to leaks, Apple wants to abandon 256 GB models. We are to see the base model of 128 GB, followed by 512 GB and 1 TB. It would not be a new approach, because we have already seen a similar game with earlier iPhones and iPads. There were 64 GB models on sale, followed by 256 GB immediately, excluding 128 GB models.
Satellite communication is to be a great novelty.
iPhones are to have a built-in module and antenna for satellite communication. It is about telephone calls using not terrestrial masts of operators, but satellites circulating in low Earth orbit. Apple is to have a partner to handle calls, i.e. Globalstar. It is not known whether the iPhone 13 will make it possible to buy a satellite communication plan (unlikely) or whether it will use this technology for emergency cases where it will be necessary to call for help in distant regions of the Earth.
What we will not see in the iPhone 13?
From the list of expectations, we can delete Touch ID, i.e. the fingerprint scanner. Apple allegedly tested this solution, but it will not go to the final iPhone. In the era of masks, this is a minus, but Apple has an interest in it, because recently the iPhone can be unlocked in the mask with the Apple Watch in hand. So why add a fingerprint scanner when you can sell a customer an additional device, right?
We will also not see the USB-C port for charging. You can charge your MacBook and iPad Pro with USB-C, and AirPods and iPhone, for a change, with a Lightning cable. Because you know, ecosystem and standardization. However, let's put these jokes aside, because Apple clearly focuses on wireless charging of mobile devices, and here, fortunately, it uses the universal Qi standard (excluding Apple Watch). So we have standard USB-C for large devices and an equally standard Qi for small ones.
Some time ago, there was also a rumor that the iPhone would not have any port. Fortunately, this will not happen in the model 13. And fortunately, because remember that the Lightning port is also a service connector that can be saved by a phone in the service in more than one accident.
iPhone 13: when is the premiere?
Jon Prosser, who has an average leakage rate, predicts the following schedule:
iPhone 13: price.
And how much will the new iPhone 13 cost? Of course, no one knows the answer to this question, but there are leaks that say it will be more expensive than last year. Apple has problems with the delivery of components, and the parts themselves have also become more expensive due to the pandemic. According to leaks, the company intends to pass this cost on to the user.
