Higher screen refresh - unnecessary addition or a must-have function?

If we look at the smartphone market, you can see that the higher refresh rate has spread across all price categories. Today, among the new devices, standard 60 Hz devices probably only have Nokia phones, budget phones for about PLN 500 and basic iPhones 13. All others have 90, 120 or even 144 Hz. And no wonder - the higher refresh rate is pleasing to the eye, makes the phone even more responsive and although it drains the batteries more, it is rather a function desired by users. Well, there are people who say that after using a 120 Hz screen, returning to the standard 60 is painful. I am somewhere in the middle, because while I can absolutely see the benefits of more frequently refreshed screens, I do not see (ha-ha) a problem with using smartphones with 60 Hz on a daily basis.

As you can see, for almost half of the users, fast refresh is a necessary function in their next phone, and almost every third found it to be simply one of the important functions of the phone. In total, more than 70 percent. people found higher refreshment important. Users also commented on what screens are best for them.

As you can see, the most-preferred screen would be the 120 Hz panel with variable refreshing, which we can find, among others. on iPhone 13 Pro. They are followed by 120, 90 and 60 Hz. Significantly, it turns out that above 120 Hz, users either do not notice any additional benefits, or they are compensated for by the negative effects of fast battery wear. Otherwise it cannot be explained that 144 Hz landed at the bottom of the list.

If I were to answer these questions myself, I think I would point out that higher unblocking is important, but it is not a must have function. I value much more in screens, for example the appropriate brightness settings, colors or sharpness of the image. When it comes to what refreshment I would choose, I would probably also bet on 120 Hz which adapts to what we are currently doing, because it is the best of two worlds - it allows you to enjoy faster refreshment and does not drain the battery.
