Before cars appear on the roads that will completely help man, we will get to know extensive human support systems.Support, and therefore not replace, but to ensure greater safety or facilitate tedious activities, but leaving us control over the car.Although such technology may seem backward to all this autonomy, it is not so, the possibilities of new cars for people who are shyly developing the development of the automotive industry, they look as if they were pulled out of the science fiction movie.I found out about these possibilities myself, having great pleasure to ride a new child with Ingolstadt - Audi A5 Coupe.For renting a car, thank you to the Krotoski-Cichy Salon in Łódź.
Virtual cockpit - an unnecessary gadget or a worthy successor to traditional clocks?
In new cars, we will more and more often meet with displays that have replaced traditional clocks - speedometer and tachometer.In Audi, the virtual cockpit was in the TT model for the first time, then moved to new generations of other models, including A4 or Q7 and also went to the A5 coupe I tested.I admit that at first I was skeptical about this solution, especially seeing his ugly implementation in Mercedes, where we received something looking like an ugly tablet behind the wheel.
My attitude began to change with the next read tests and viewed videos presenting the Audi display.The whole was well fitted into the board's dashboard and it does not look artificial, but like a fitted puzzle element.In my skeptical approach, it was not only about aesthetic impressions, here I would be able to accept the deficiencies.I just didn't see the sense of mounting a large display just behind the wheel, after all, ordinary clocks met my requirements, and the small screen placed between them, providing the necessary information was sufficient.
Of course I was right - ordinary clocks fulfill the task entrusted to them very well, but nothing more.However, the virtual cockpit offers much more.The big advantage is the ability to personalize the displayed information.Even simple, and in selected situations a useful option to reduce the size of speedometer and tachometer, for other data.The clocks are still on the screen, they are here all the time regardless of the selected settings, they are only smaller, still clearly visible, but they give way to even high navigation.
We have several screens to choose from - navigation, radio or car information, including average fuel consumption, temporary combustion, average speed or distance.Between individual screens we switch with the help of physical buttons placed on the steering wheel.Thanks to this, we have quick access to the data we are interested in, and the control is so well thought out that after a short instill, we are not forced to take your eyes off the road.
Let's go back to the navigation for a moment.It might seem that since we have a second screen, placed in the middle of the dashboard, which can also display the maps, duplication of this function is unnecessary.I assure you that this is a thoughtful solution.It is faster and more convenient to look at the clocks with navigation than to direct the eye on the additional screen on the side.Note that when you drive you often look at the clocks, even reflexively, and not necessarily to the center of the dashboard.In addition, we get a free second screen, then it is used to control even a multimedia system, without the need to turn off maps.Interestingly, we can set navigation in both places, but the image is not duplicated.
Nothing stands out to personalize the virtual cockpit in such a way that it looks like traditional clocks.However, after the Audi A5 tests, I see the use of such a system in only one situation - when we want to press the gas pedal and extract full power from the engine.Here I will allow myself to go away from the subject of the whole text and go to the heart of the car.I got a version with engine 2.0 TFSI with 252 HP and a maximum torque of 370 Nm.This unit combined with a sensational Quattro drive, a fast dual clutch S-Tronic gearbox and a refined steering system, can speed up the heartbeat.I will add that reaching 5.5 s to a hundred should not be a problem.
Good sprays.Pl, however, this is not a typical automotive portal, so we will come back to presenting what you probably are more interested in.If we look at the windscreen sitting in the driver's place, we will see the HUD (Head-up Display) display just above the steering wheel.This is not new, but the solution that is most worth seeing - the most needed data is always visible.We can use it to even display the current speed or the speed limit in force on a given section.The position of the head-up display display can be configured by adapting it to the driver's height and other preferences.
Physical buttons show superiority above the touch screens
Now we will devote attention to the entire multimedia system, which for many customers is a key feature of a good car.After all, a modern car should not only be comfortable, safe and well drive, but also must support many new technologies and those known from devices that we usually carry with us.Not only that, the multimedia system used is to be intuitive, convenient to use, and also offer a multitude of functions.
Most will agree that touch screens that are perfect for smartphones and tablets, in the case of other devices are no longer the optimal interaction method.A good example are laptops, those ordinary, not 2in1 constructions.I have similar feelings about cars.Reaching all the time to the touch display, and also gestures on it, distracts and often forces us to take your eyes off the road for a long time.Here, classic solutions, physical buttons are better and these are such a characteristic click after pressing.As for convenience - it is easier to press a button that is always in the same place and always ensures the same activity.
The above belief in the superiority of physical buttons was guided when creating a new generation of Audi A5.There are no tactile displays or buttons that we can accidentally press the finger brush.Edition of any command boils down to pressing the button, and we are informed about the sound of click.We know that the computer has been instructed from us and will complete it now.
The main control buttons were just above the gearbox bar on the middle tunnel.The design of the stick and the middle armrest placed right behind it, make the hand on it comfortably and the fingers are above the buttons.In the middle a knob was placed to move on the displayed list.The upper surface of the knob is the only touch panel that is used to enter the text.It works very easily, although entering a longer phrase takes a bit.The text is introduced by drawing letters: the space is a horizontal shift to the right, and to remove the previously introduced sign is used by the opposite gesture - shift to the left.
Audi A5 is also a car adapted to the requirements of a modern customer, carrying a smartphone with him in a pocket and requiring that when conducting also during conducting also have access to the most important functions.We can easily connect our smartphone with Android or iOS (users of mobile Windows, well, and here they are excluded).Thanks to this, we will gain access to the phone book, the possibility of calling, browsing and replying to text messages or emails.Don't worry, we do not have to enter the text using the touch panel, the message can be dictated simply, the Polish language is supported quite efficiently.
There was also Android Auto and Apple Carplay system, allowing not only to give access to the basic functions of the smartphone, but also better to integrate our mobile device, for example, giving access to selected applications.Interestingly, even without pairing with a smartphone, we can log in to Twitter.For me, this is not a very wise move, which was shown by the previous implementation of Facebook.In Audi cars, we could log in to Facebook in advance, but after a few cases, the concern decided to remove this function.I hope that a similar fate will meet Twitter and all other attempts to add any social networking sites.
The computer will help us overcome longer routes
I have already presented multimedia systems in short.I will say that they are great, and the whole thing works great, and what is most important - it just works, without any jams, mistakes and so on.Google, Microsoft, are you?If so, report to Audi, maybe they will optimize your software.Although the Audi A5 is sensational in this respect, it has something more to offer.Of course, it is assistants whose task is to support, sometimes even to do the driver in selected situations.The systems are so advanced that you could almost forget about holding the steering wheel.However, we have to wait for full autonomy, and for now we can have a great time over 250-horsepower Audi, which in selected situations will gladly help us, and if we want it, it will ensure great pleasure from driving.
Driving Audi A5 on the highway, I could first check two systems.I would not define them with the necessary (maybe not in terms of safety), but after a long time with them, I think that they can significantly increase the comfort of mixing, and in selected situations, even save us from a collision, which at high speeds can have fatal effects.The first driver support system is Audi Active Lane Assist.He will take care of keeping the car in a given belt.The webcam located behind the windshield monitors the route in front of us, sending data on the lane to the computer to the computer.The system will cope with lines drawn in accordance with the designated standards, regardless of whether we are dealing with a continuous or intermittent line.
Audi Active Lane Assist works above 65 km/h and protects us against accidental change of belt.The driver is initially informed with delicate vibrations, and if he does not react, then through a gentle steering wheel movement, Audi will return to the center of the belt we are currently going.Don't worry, the system does not try to be stronger than the driver, it gently supports us, does not completely block the possibility of changing the lane.Of course, it can be deactivated, although I do not recommend it.Just learn one thing - to turn on directions.If we give a clear signal that we want to change the belt, then the computer will not react at all and allow you to cross the line without any protests.Turning on the direction is a message in the car that we have control over the vehicle all the time and we want to actually do the maneuver.Simple and teaches good habits.
Cruise control is a great solution and not only on highways, but rather its new, significantly improved generation.Here, the goal is to maintain not only speed, but also a safe distance from the vehicle preceding.We have several settings to choose from, from a fairly large space between cars, to so close that I would be afraid to sit on the tail so much.Without fear, even at the shortest distance, safety is preserved.The distance is not strictly defined, it depends on the speed at which we move.At 70 km/h and the same mode, it will be closer to the preceding car than as if we were driving 130 km/h.
The computer follows the road in front of us and if, for example,.A vehicle will appear just before us, in the same lane, our speed will be slowly changed to ensure the right distance.Then the speed will be identical to the preceding car, and if possible, the computer will speed up, keeping a safe distance all the time.However, if the belt slows down, the car will accelerate to the previously designated speed.The maximum speed can be set by hand or moving at a given speed, press the handle, then Audi will try to keep this current.
There is one more option to adjust the speed, the most interesting, although supporters of quick movement will not like it.With the help of the front camera, as well as GPS data, the computer will not exceed the limitations set on a given section.The front camera without problems peaks vertical characters, immediately adjusting the speed after entering the zone with the limit.When driving, only one sign was ignored once - but it was placed on the top, above my head.Unfortunately, I was still not able to meet an equally high mark to check if the system actually had more serious problems with it or it was only a single slip -up.
The computer always has one main task - avoiding an accident
I admit that I had a lot of problems to get used to using this advanced cruise control.When a car appeared in front of me, my leg reflexively headed towards the brake pedal - I finally wanted to slow down not to get into the ass.I did it unnecessarily, because the computer was doing great, I'm afraid that it reacted more efficiently from me, and I point out that I am not a sluggish driver.
The acceleration, braking and maintaining the right distance came out sensational, and the journey on the highway became noticeably less tiring.In addition, the car took care of our safety all the time and that we would not damage the bumper preceding the car.I note that the system is optional, and even after it is turned on, the deactivation is very easy - just slightly brush the brake pedal, which is a sign for the computer that we want to take control of the car.
Audi Pre Sense City is another system that shows that the computer can ensure greater security as much as possible.His task is not only to ensure the safety of people in the car, but also to other traffic participants.The webcam is used, among others, placed in the windshield.It detects objects in front of us, both other cars and pedestrians.After noticing the potential threat, the driver is initially warned, and if he does not react, the computer will try to avoid collision.
The system can react in two ways - if the speed allows it, the audi will be brake, and to hit another object does not occur, but if our speed is too high, then the car will try to reduce the effects of collision.It is worth adding that just braking in such a situation is not pleasant, it can be said that Audi even accuses the anchor - the computer is focused on stopping as soon as possible.
Moving in traffic jams we don't have to be so tiring
Driving a good car is a great pleasure for me as a fan of the automotive industry.Sometimes I like to get into the car, calm the smartphone and go to a longer ride, but only when it is to take place far from the city.The pleasure falls almost to zero when I have to move in traffic jams.Here, Audi decided to help, which, among others, in the tested A5 model, offers a traffic jam assistant.It uses the front camera and built -in sensors.As you can guess, he helps us in a tedious continuous movement and stopping in a traffic jam.
Other vehicles are being followed all the time.If the column moves in front of us, the audi will follow her.We, as a driver, we do not have to do anything, the car will move and stop, keeping the right distance from the vehicle preceding.The system's operation is not limited to the brake pedal or gas, and the steering wheel is also taken over.The car will cope with keeping its lane.We have to take control only if the cork ends.
The system is so advanced that it would calmly manage without a driver.Just remember that the Audi A5 is not an autonomous vehicle, and the traffic jam assistant only supports us, and does not help us.We still have to observe the surroundings and focus on the lead, not to give everything, including your safety, only the computer.
Finally, it is worth spending a moment to the assistant efficiency.He monitors the driver all the time and in the event of fatigue, he recommends taking a break.Even our radio control efficiency is checked.It is worth remembering here that during the lead we should be in good shape, even minimal fatigue, delays our movements.It may seem that this has a little impact on our efficiency.However, even this small influence, at a speed of 100 km/h, can lead to too slow reaction, which can have fatal effects.
Audi A5, or Vorsprung Durch technician
By choosing Audi A5, as well as other new generations of manufacturer's models from Ingolstadt, it can still buy a parking assistant.Unfortunately, in a copy that I got for tests, despite the rich equipment, this system was missing.In the text, I did not mention all available functions, including warning against another car in the dead field, reversing camera or sensors that facilitate maneuvering in the parking lot.However, similar solutions can be found for a long time, and no longer evoke such emotions, I described above the possibilities offered in the new Audi A5.
First of all, I was to check all these advanced systems.They increase safety, protect against an accident, not only us, but also other traffic participants, significantly increase the comfort of movement, and sometimes even make the impression of moving the autonomous vehicle.However, I wonder if after spending a year with such an advanced car, I would be able to change to an older vehicle without problems.It is very possible that while waiting for the sound of the sensors, I would rub another vehicle in the parking lot or have a big problem with retreat without an additional webcam from the back.
It is very possible that such cars can get us slightly, but it is similar with every new advanced device.For example, smartphones and navigations built in them have made more and more people trouble reading a paper map, but does this mean that we are not to use a better solution offered by smartphones?Of course not, we should reach for them whenever we have the opportunity, because it is simply more convenient.It is similar with Audi A5 and other modern, computerized cars - if we accept them, we will gain a very important thing - a computer that will increase our safety and comfort of use.
Audi A5 capabilities can impress, both electronics and the driving characteristics themselves.I will add that I got a well -equipped copy, the only serious disadvantage of which may be a high price.We have to pay a minimum of over 300 thousand for the configuration I traveled.zlotys.I know, this is a large amount, but competition in the form of a Mercedes or BMW is not cheaper.If I were to briefly summarize the experience after playing with the new Audi, I would say that this model perfectly shows what the advantage means thanks to the technique.
