The awaited iOS 12 debuted a dozen or so days ago. First of all, the system has a huge impact on the stability and performance of smartphones. Every iPhone from the 5s model to the latest version will work better on the latest software version. iOS 12 doesn't introduce too many new features, but the reception is overwhelmingly positive.

We will see eSIM in iOS 12.1
Of course, not for everyone ... iOS 12.1, which will be available to everyone within a few weeks, will introduce eSIM support. This service allows you to activate a cellular plan from your operator without the need for a physical SIM card. The option is available in the latest Apple smartphones, i.e. Xs, Xs Max and Xr. These models introduced the long-awaited possibility of using two numbers on an Apple smartphone. However, it is not available in Xs and Xs Max at startup. The iPhone Xr is just waiting for its premiere. ESIM settings are available by going to your cellular settings and then adding the "add cellular plan" option. All contacts available on the phone now include a setting that helps to change the default phone number from which we contact each person.
Who can use eSIM?
According to the German website iPhone-Ticker.de, some Deutsche Telekom users can use the eSIM function in iOS 12.1. They have the option of adding two SIM cards to their iPhones. Operators must implement the eSIM feature before it is available, and Apple will publish a list of operators who plan to offer eSIM in a support document on its website. In the US, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon plan to offer eSIM support, but operators are unlikely to launch the feature until iOS 12.1 is released to the public.
Dual SIM support with eSIM is useful for people who use two cell plans at the same time - for example for home or work. It is also a great option for those who travel a lot. As Apple describes on its website, both numbers used on a dual SIM iPhone can make and receive voice calls and SMS / MMS messages, but the iPhone can only use one cellular network at a time. This means that if one number is on a call, incoming call to another number will go to voicemail. Both networks are active right away, and with Dual-SIM enabled, you'll see two carrier readings in the control center.
When will we see iOS 12.1?
ESIM support will be available to all iPhone Xs, Xs Max (and future XR) users when the iOS 12.1 update is released to the public. We've only had one beta of iOS 12.1 so far, so there's still a lot of work to do. The update to iOS 12.1 also includes FaceTime support for up to 32 people, new real-time deep control settings that can be used when taking photos in portrait mode.
