Mr. Jakub is 23 years old.Just a year ago he was an efficient, athletic man.On December 24 last year, in the evening, on the corners of Szczecin, he noticed a zigzag, without lights on, a car.When the driver went to the gas station, the man tried to prevent him from driving further.He wanted to take the keys.

- he deliberately turned on reverse and deliberately drove Kuba.He wanted to run away, but people on CPN stopped him - says Iwona Znojek, mother of deducted Mr. Jakub.

He was hospitalized in an agonal state

Mr. Jakub fell under the wheels and was literally crushed, and then he was dragged under the car.In his agonal state he was sent to one of the Szczecin hospitals.Although the chances of survival were small, the doctors managed to save him.

A drunk driver could not stop on his feet

When the police detained the perpetrator, he couldn't stop on his feet.He is a 29-year-old Ukrainian citizen Vadym L.He has been in the custody in Szczecin since the incident.The prosecutor presented him with two allegations.One is driving a drunk car.The second is much more serious.

- The prosecutor decided that the suspect's behavior was attempted to murder in a possible intention.And such an allegation was made to him.The man is charged with committing a crime.This case will start soon, on November 18 the first day of the trial was designated - says Michał Tomala from the District Court in Szczecin

Difficult rehabilitation

From April, Mr. Jakub has been fighting to regain efficiency at the rehabilitation center in Otwock near Warsaw.Recovery is tedious.All -day exercises take place 6 times a week.He is accompanied by his parents.At monthly intervals, they come to change from Szczecin to be with a disabled son.

- Mr. Jakub came to us after severe brain injury.When he came to us, we talked about a vegetative state.He is a man addicted to other people.Poor work began - admits Dariusz Bednarczyk, a neurologist doctor.

He adds that the state of the man's consciousness from the vegetative state to the state of minimal consciousness has improved.

- We can catch more abutments, go forward, but in fact Mr. Jakub will require rehabilitation for the rest of his life - he explains.

- Therapy is about verticalization, we put it in a standing position.We also do passionate exercises, we support his movements.When he came to us in April, he was unable to maintain eye contact, now he shakes his hand, he nails five - adds physiotherapist King King Bylin.

The cost of rehabilitation is 30,000.PLN per month

- Kuba does not walk, does not speak, he does not eat himself, does not swallow.He is not independent, everything needs to be done - says mother Iwona Znojek.

Rehabilitation of Mr. Jakub costs over PLN 30,000 per month.Families cannot afford such an accident.Funds from the insurance of the perpetrator of the tragedy covered only some of the expenses.A fundraiser is underway for a man hit by a drunk driver.Every penny counts.

- this patient requires systematic rehabilitation every day.Chronic, notorious, many years.Stopping this rehabilitation will result in immediate regression.It would be inhuman interruption of this rehabilitation - says neurologist Dariusz Bednarczyk.
