I don't feel premium, but it's good anyway.Huawei Matebook 14s - review

No właśnie. Widać, że tego typu sprzęt im „idzie”. A jak jest z najnowszym laptopem Huawei MateBook 14s? Napisałbym, że… różnie.Nie czuję premium, ale i tak jest dobrze. Huawei MateBook 14s – recenzja

On the one hand, you can see that Matebook 14s is something important for Huawei. The equipment is hanging on the largest banners in the city, it is advertised all the time by the left one himself and this indicates that it is currently the most important and top model in the offer. On the other hand, the laptop has a lot in common with Matebook 14, so Middle Abs, and the Premium class has always been associated with a Matebook with the note Pro.Here appeared the letter "S", which can be explained in many ways.Cool?Speed?Smooth?Whatever it was, I look at him a little differently than others.

What is Huawei Matebook 14s?

Matebook 14s is primarily an exemplary and well -designed laptop. What speaks for it?It is beautiful, aluminum, and a very stiff housing. In addition, in a greenish-gray color that is different and may be liked.I don't care, it could be gray, if not powder pink. The housing is pleasant to the touch, looks good, and the laptop can be freely moved in one hand. The old school tells me in my ear that this should not be done, but in turn this Matebook gives some sure that nothing bad happens. The hinge walks noiselessly, but I am very irritated by the fact that the equipment for such money cannot be opened with one hand. This was usually associated with the highest shelf, and since we don't see it here, you can add the rest of the sentence.

A good project is also evidenced by the fact that Huawei did not have to cut anything in the screen to fit a camera with sensors. Here it was done without prejudice on the display, and the camera and sensors for Windows Hello are in a narrow frame. It turned out really nice, although the record holders are a bit lacking.

The laptop has two quite protruding footrests underneath, which gives the impression as if the equipment was thicker than the data from the table indicates. And there is a grain of truth in this, because comparing Matebook 14s to an ordinary fourteen, the first one is slightly plump.Hence, there is nothing to call him ultrasmuk, because it is a bit of the truth. But such a solution also brings something good, because a slight raising of the housing and creating a kind of gap improves the drainage and air flow. The device is still handy and can be described as satisfactorily mobile.Maybe not like Matebook 13, but 1.43 kg of weight has not been broken to anyone yet.

The screen is certainly something you can look at for hours.

I know how ophthalmologists would react to the above sentence, but the truth is that the screen in this laptop is amazing. He made a huge impression on me, although I saw better. What we already know, i.e. slender frames and high resolution, but also what was not yet in Huawei laptops. The refreshment has been conquered to 90 Hz, which can be seen at the first contact with the laptop.Everything is smoother, faster, more responsive and so noticeably better. What's more, you can find out yourself, because the refreshment can be changed "in flight" with the combination of FN + R keys. Maybe this is not the best matrix in terms of colors I've seen in the eyes, but certainly ranks somewhere high. The screen is exactly 14.2 inches.

In my case, I had the recommended resolution, i.e. 2560 x 1680 pixels, but I had to increase scaling to 175%.This is how it worked best.As for the clarity, technical data speak of 400 rivets and indeed at the highest level the matrix can illuminate the room, but I, out of respect for my eyes, usually worked on a little more than half of the belt.I have nothing to complain about the angles of vision or detail, but some will probably be disturbed by the shiny surface of the screen. This is primarily associated with touch support, because yes, we can also use this screen with a finger (which I do not praise) or M-Pencil stylus (which I recommend).

Software is Huawei's computer strength.

We get a laptop with Windows 10 Home, which again looking at the price is inexplicable.Although here is more important than the "windows" is what we get from Huawei.I admit that at the beginning somehow I was reluctant to approach this PC manager, but the truth is that the more I test Huawei laptops, the more I convince myself.Very often in the case of Matebook 14s it was so that immediately after starting the laptop I applied the smartphone to the touchpad (this is where the antenna is located) to connect with it.And you know what?It works well enough that sometimes I missed it on a stationary.

I never had any acid with the system. It acted stable and quickly, and in the meantime, several updates appeared. What's more, even at the end of the tests, information about the available update to Windows 11 appeared. I don't know if it was due to Microsoft or Huawei, but if it was my private equipment, I wouldn't think long, I would just install.Okay, but what about this PC manager from Huawei? And the fact that the idea for the integration and cooperation of a smartphone with a laptop really works. It connects every time, trouble -free and quickly.

The best part is that we can display the screen of our smartphone on the laptop screen. In this case, Huawei Mate 40 Pro served, but Huawei Nova 9 also lay next to it and it worked the same.Everything happens within the local Wi-Fi network, but you also need to have bluetooth and NFC (to connect). We can view the content of the smartphone, create a backup of the data and - probably the most useful - transfer photos and files by the "drag and drop" method. There is also such a thing that applications from the phone can be opened in several windows. That is, we have, for example, the Messenger displayed, click on the appropriate icon and the cycle, it opens in the second window. In this form, multi -branch cooperation, as Huawei, called satisfactorily and allows you to actually operate the smartphone from the computer screen.Aaa and voice calls can also be done.

This may surprise you, but I have the biggest reservations for the keyboard and touchpad.

Matebook 14S is driving hardly in almost every respect. This beast is efficient, because under the housing (in my test copy) Core i5 11th generation processor, 16 GB RAM (fairly fast, because 3733 MHz) and 512 GB of disk space. Therefore, there is nothing to complain about performance.Everything works "from the finger", immediately, and the disk is like a rocket. The fans (yes, because there are two) in a typical office work they practically do not speak, but when we turn on, for example, a movie in a higher resolution or we will collapse with applications, you can hear the noise.

You can also write a lot of good about the battery. This has 60 Wh and with my use it lasted up to 12 hours. At the same time, it was a strictly office work with browsing the network and gouging up the pictures. We charge the battery with USB-C on the left side of the laptop, and we use a 90-watt charger.Looking at the thickness of this equipment, it was not a problem to fit a standard HDMI port (version 1.4B).Next to it we have two USB type C and a headphone port, and on the other side of the laptop there was a place for one USB 3.2 Gen 1. However, there was a memory card reader. In turn, in the power button, as befits Huawei laptops, a fingerprint reader was hidden.

As I wrote, I have the biggest reservations for the keyboard and touchpad. In short, you can't feel premium here at all.The keyboard is so bland, it has weak and the backlight piercing between the keys, and when writing it falls deeper than the housing. There is no good "feeling" while writing and it is a bit "spongy".The touchpad, in turn, is very large, which is a plus, but looking at the price, I would require more from it.It should be better made and have a more subtle click. The buttons work loudly. At this price, you can easily find equipment with a glass touchpad that works much better.

And what price did I mention during the whole review?

I am asking you, 5999 Polish new gross zlotys.Huawei at the back he valued the laptop version tested here.Matebook 14s in a green housing (which in the pictures no longer looks like a green) with a Core i5 processor, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB disk. For me and probably not only me, a lot too much.If they retained the level of a regular fourteen, it could be swallowed, and yes, you don't feel that it is equipment that should cost so much.Even more so if we look how much you need to put as a stronger version. The surcharge of about PLN 1,700 for Core i7 and the twice the capacity disk is very exaggerated for me and so much "in the Apple style".

I consider Matebook 14s to be very good equipment, which is nice and efficient. It will provide high performance, smooth operation, great display quality and long battery life.Cooperation with a smartphone works as it should and can actually be useful. The only problem is that if you want to choose the most "sad" version, you have to pay as much as for the Matebook X Pro, which is the flagship, top and more deserving of such a substantial amount for equipment. In principle, it provides everything that 14s, but has an even better screen, is much slimmer and lighter, and it works on Windows 10 Pro.
