Foldable Motorola Razr officially. The return of a classic in a modern form

We have been talking about the folded Motorola as part of the Razr series brought back to life for many months and finally we have the official announcement of this smartphone. The design of the device strongly refers to the original Razr, which in its time broke popularity records, which means that we get equipment that is folded in half horizontally, which was possible thanks to the use of a flexible OLED screen. This one has an unusual resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels, measures 6.2 inches and has a notch in the upper part, which houses the front camera and the speaker. In the lower part there is the so-called a chin with a fingerprint reader and a USB type C port. The external screen is a 2.7-inch OLED panel made of glass, which is used to display notifications, control music and camera seflie mode.

Motorola ensures that it made sure that the main screen did not break during continuous folding and unfolding, but the bend of the display is visible during use (as in the case of other models of this type). Interestingly, the new Razr offers the same satisfying opening feeling as the original, and we can close or open the phone to end or start a conversation appropriately. The cameras offer standard functions for phones from 2019, i.e. night mode, portrait mode or support from artificial intelligence. The main unit is a 16 MP sensor with f / 1.7 lens, electronic image stabilization EIS, Dual Pixel AF and laser AF. The front camera is a 5 MP unit with an f / 2.0 lens. In terms of the number of cameras, it is therefore quite modest.

However, you should be aware that the new Razr is not a flagship, but a typical medium, which is confirmed by the rest of the specification. Its heart is the Snapdragon 710 chip, which is supported by only 6 GB of RAM. We get 128 GB for data, and the worries about the device's working time are raised by a modest battery with a capacity of 2510 mAh. Everything is supported by the Android 9 Pie operating system. Another interesting feature is the Retro Razr mode, which brings back the old-school interface of the original. The price of the device, however, is far from the mid-range as it will be at $ 1,499. Nevertheless, it is still clearly lower than the competition in the form of Samsung Fold and Huawei Mate X, although these are models with high-end specifications, which also have a larger form, because they unfold into the tablet. The premiere of Razr will take place in January next year and so far the availability has only been confirmed on the American Verizon network. Motorola has confirmed that the phone will go to Europe in December this year, but the price on the Old Continent remains unknown.
