Source: PoliceRansomware is one of the most popular viruses and one of the biggest threats today. The malware is dangerous in two ways: not only does it block access to the device, making it unusable, but it also demands a ransom. Criminals promise to unlock the machine as soon as they receive the payment. Security experts have been calling for years not to comply with their demands. According to the principle that you do not negotiate with criminals, because we have no guarantee that they will actually keep their word.
"Computer blocked by the police": how to remove the virus?
While browsing the Internet, you may come across a message saying "Computer blocked by the police". The content of the window usually reads that the blockade occurred due to the dissemination of prohibited content, e.g. pornographic or even pedophilic materials. Even if such things were not shared, apparently the computer was taken over by hackers - explains the message. And that means there's been a violation of the Negligent Use of Computer Act.
The good news is that there is no such law. The positives don't end there. "Block" is not a virus at all. Fraudsters exploit browser vulnerabilities. The fake message is displayed in full screen, and the mouse buttons are blocked to scare the victim. However, it is enough to press "Esc" or the combination of "Alt+F4" or "Ctrl+W" to bypass the lock. Then close the fake page and problem solved.
Ransomware virus: how to remove?
Although the described threat is not a virus, it does not mean that ransomware (locking computers for ransom) is not a threat to us. If you do not want to install malware, do not click on links received from unknown senders or download files of unknown origin. When we fall victim to a crime, it is not worth complying with the demands of criminals. Very often, security specialists publish special tools that allow you to decrypt the drive. You can also boot into safe mode and then run your antivirus program. However, sometimes a system restore will be necessary.
