5G: it doesn't matter who came first. It is more important that the last one hurry up

5G: it doesn't matter who came first. It is more important that the last one hurry up

And no, it's not that the global use of 5G has started. Only the counting out festival has started.

The first 5G network in Asia. The first 5G network in Europe. First 5G tests in every single country. The first commercial 5G service in any single country. The first 5G modem. The first phone with 5G. The first foldable phone with 5G. The first 5G phone in Europe. Cheapest 5G phone. The thinnest phone with 5G. And so on and so forth…

Do you know what all this reminds me of?

I feel like I went back to the beginning of the 21st century and saw the sign: "first airport in the world".

Sure, it's very good that someone has paved the way and made aviation flourish. His right to brag about this fact is sacred.

The problem is that I & hairsp; - & hairsp; potential passenger & hairsp; - & hairsp; seeing the sign "first airport in the world" get a signal that I do not really have a place to go from this airport. For me, this airport will gain value only when other airports are opened and connections between them are launched. In this case, it doesn't matter who came first, until the rest of the people hurry up.

The situation is very similar with 5G

What does 5G really do? The main advantages are:

5G: nieważne, kto był pierwszy. Ważniejsze jest to, by ostatni się pospieszył

All these factors will make it possible to create completely new branches of the economy. Launching services that today are only a dream zone. And those that go beyond this dream zone.

Gaming in the cloud, instant communication between autonomous cars and city infrastructure, performing remote medical operations & hairsp; - & hairsp; is just the beginning of a long list of potential applications.

However, for all of this to happen, 5G cannot run in the first city. It has to work in every city.

Because what about the fact that I already have 5G and I can quickly pick up a file if my friend in another city does not have 5G yet and cannot send this file to me with the same speed. So what if I'm ready to watch live broadcasts in 8K and VR, if the broadcaster is not ready to create such a broadcast yet. So what if I can comfortably play in the cloud, if this comfort ends immediately after leaving the city.

Of course, in several aspects, 5G offers tangible benefits here and now (mainly in terms of faster data transmission), but there is still a long way to go to use the full potential of next-generation networks.

Don't get me wrong

Of course, I do not want to criticize operators, equipment manufacturers and network infrastructure creators for boasting about each new milestone. Today, we would not be able to use more than 40,000 airports if someone had not built the first one some time.

The problem, however, is that 5G is one of those solutions where the slogan "first" acts more as an anti-advertising. This is not an amusement park that you can enter without being concerned about whether there are other amusement parks.

That is why I am waiting for the last Polish city with 5G more than for the first Polish city with 5G.
